Recommendations before exercise test
For the test to be as accurate as possible, the patient should be as well-rested as possible: without having carried out any excessive physical effort and without food, drink, tobacco or alcohol.

Clothing: Bring sportswear or other comfortable clothes and footwear.
Note for women: Dresses or skirts are not comfortable or suitable for this type of test.

Food: It is advisable not to eat for 3 hours before the test. If you need to eat something, it must be very light (eg 1 toast, 1 – 2 plain crackers, 1 banana)

Drink: From 3 hours prior to testing it is recommended to drink only a little water. Avoid drinks with caffeine: coffee (including decaffeinated products), colas, chocolate, tea.

Tobacco: Do not smoke on the day of the test

Physical activity: No exercise or strenuous physical activity 24 hours prior to testing.

Medication: Some medicines contain caffeine, such as a cold or flu remedies. If you are unsure of the medication, ask your doctor.
Do not stop taking any medication without consulting your doctor.
If you use an inhaler for breathing, bring it to the test.

Diabetes: If you take insulin, ask your doctor how much dosage should use the on test day. Typically, this is half the usual dose in the morning and a light meal 4 hours before the test.

If you use pills to control blood sugar, do not take the medication until after the test.

If you sugar is controlled with the glucose apparatus, bring it to determine your blood sugar before and after the test. If you think your blood sugar is low, tell the staff immediately. Plan your meals and medication for after the test.

• Before the test you are asked to sign an Informed Consent accepting that the test be carried out.
